Everyone has seen the steady price increase over the years, with some of them (Xbox Game pass and PlayStation Plus) costing over $100 to $300 dollars a year.

With an Xbox X costing $649, if you play on it for 3 years without upgrading consoles, and pay for Xbox Ultimate ($29.99/month) for all 3 years, that's $1728.64 Dollars.
Game Pass / Plus Games
Now, for some people, paying for Game Pass Ultimate, or even some of the premium tires of PlayStation Plus is worth it. However, for most people wanting to own their games, and have access to them for life, even without a subscription, it might not be the best choice.
As soon as you stop paying for those high monthly subscriptions, you lose access to every game you've been able to play through it. Even if you were to buy the game instead of receiving it through reactivating the subscription, your game progress could be wiped.
Not to mention, Xbox and PlayStation are in control of when games are removed from those tiers of the subscription, which could easily remove the game you've been playing, and require you to pay for it, and lose your save.
